In anodising, plating, and chromic acid environments, standard tapes dissolve or peel — contaminating the bath and ruining parts. Chemically resistant grades such as 3M™ 1280 and 8985L are engineered for these conditions; standard masking is not.
Paint bleed and ragged edge lines
Poor edge definition or tape lift during curing produces fuzzy paint transitions requiring costly rework. Fine-line masking grades resist lifting at bake temperature and leave a clean paint edge — the result of backing stability and adhesive selection working together.

Under high heat some backing materials shrink, pulling the adhesive from the masking line and allowing coating intrusion at the edge. Dimensionally stable PET and high-temperature Washi backings maintain their geometry through the full bake cycle.
